The Dyslexia Friendly Schools Toolkit

Dyslexia Toolkit !

I am pleased to provide an introduction to ‘Removing Dyslexia as a Barrier to Achievement’ since it endorses and provides comprehensive advice on how all lessons for all learners are planned , resourced and taught in school.

In this way it brings to our attention to issue of providing the best opportunities for each of the learners in the mainstream classroom , whatever their learning difference or style - a very important point to address since this represents, for the most part, where the majority of dyslexic learners spend most of their time.

Neil Mackay’s book takes a thought provoking and detailed look at the potential to create dyslexia friendly learning environments – in the classroom and the school and as such his book is very much in line with the British Dyslexia Association’s initiative - ‘Inclusive Education : Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark for LEA’s and Schools’ .

  The Dyslexia Friendly Schools Toolkit

The toolkit is full of practical guidance, empowering ideas and challenging assertions about inclusion . It presents many strategies for meeting diverse learning needs, and methods for overcoming barriers to learning. These are clearly rooted in practice and based on a wealth of relevant experience that the author has deftly woven into the narrative.

The Dyslexia Friendly Toolkit has the potential to make a valuable contribution to enabling dyslexic learners, and indeed all learners with their varied learning styles, to fulfil their potential and realise their learning aspirations.
